Revving to hit the racetrack since he could walk, eight-year-old Felix Tupuse is taking his love for racing from New Zealand to Australia, proudly carrying his Samoan heritage with him.
From as young as 10 months old, Felix would crawl towards his tricycle before eventually graduating to two wheels. The moment he got his hands on a set of handlebars, his parents, Kymm and Jonathan, knew there would be no slowing him down.
From plastic tricycles and wooden balance bikes to electric balance bikes and now 65cc motocross and110cc MiniGP bikes, Felix has tackled every stage of his riding journey with determination and confidence.
Felix began riding a PW50 motorbike at the age of three and started racing a year later. In 2025, he began competing in MiniGP races in New Zealand with MiniGP Academy NZ on a 110cc Delirio, finishing third overall. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, with his uncle, three-time New Zealand Superbike champion Sloan Frost, inspiring his love for motorcycles from an early age.
"Growing up around his uncle and attending races from a young age has definitely inspired Felix. Even when he was little, he was around him and even reaching for his tools. Now his uncle takes him to the local tracks to train,” says mum Kymm.
His success on the track is one thing but his love for all sports, keeps this busy eight-year-old wanting to do more.
"We love seeing him in his element and doing something he loves. He also enjoys basketball and touch rugby, so he's a very active youngster who loves a challenge and anything adrenaline-based,” says dad Jonathan.
Felix has earned the nickname "Postman" from racing officials in New Zealand for his fearless riding style and ability to dive deep into corners at the last moment before delivering a successful pass.
“We know that Felix is the youngest Pacific motocross and MiniGP rider in New Zealand and we are really proud of him,” says Jonathan.
The adrenaline-fuelled eight-year-old is preparing to head to Melbourne to compete in the MotoMini Ohvale MiniGP 110 Cup Series. He is also aiming to qualify for next year's Ohvale Guangzhou Super Cup at the Guangzhou Conghua International Circuit in China.
“It’s great to see Felix pursuing his dreams at such a young age and going for what he wants to do. We hope other children in New Zealand know that anything is possible and feel inspired to chase their own dreams,” says Kymm.
