A growing number of Pacific students around New Zealand are saying “yes” to being involved in the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) and gaining entrepreneurial skills.

As part of the YES programme, students set up and run a real business, and each YES company creates their product or service and gets to experience what it is like to go to market.

Nationwide, there are 485 Pacific students participating in YES within 92 Pacific companies this year.

The Ministry for Pacific Peoples (MPP) is supporting the Pacific companies by showcasing Pacific companies involved in YES.

This will help boost the teams’ profiles and hopefully help turn followers into customers of Pacific companies’ YES products.

Meet Pacific YES team Sticker Up, from Auckland Girls Grammar School.

Sticker Up has created achievement stickers with a difference.

The sticker sheets incorporate the English, Maori, Samoan, Tongan, and Niuean cultures, and feature a cultural design and symbol that signifies each culture.

The Sticker Up vision relates to the business’ slogan – “Where stickers meet culture”.

This slogan shows how the young business is trying to make stickers in New Zealand more diverse, by showcasing phrases in Maori and Pacific languages.

The Sticker Up team say educating young children with different languages creates an ongoing cycle where they will grow up and teach the younger generation these sayings.

Their mission is to create a product to educate New Zealand’s youth about the significance of culture.
