Workwise Employment Consultant Damien Tito Asafo is passionate about ensuring young Pacific people have the right tools and confidence to use when searching for their dream jobs or pursuing studies.

He says Tupu Aotearoa is the ideal initiative to help empower and equip Pacific young people to reach their goals.

Workwise is a Tupu Aotearoa Auckland Metropolitan service provider, which works with people who are facing personal or health challenges.

“We support them to return to or stay in employment,” Damien says.

Workwise’s philosophy is based around a holistic approach to employment, and it is committed to helping people find the right role to suit their skills, experience, and dreams – and helping them to keep it.

The organisation’s aims align with those of Tupu Aotearoa, a Ministry for Pacific Peoples (MPP) initiative which connects Pacific young people with local providers who will help with things such as more training and upskilling; finding employment; and study.

When Damien spotted a Facebook advertisement looking for Employment Consultants of Pacific descent to help people back into employment or study, his interest was piqued.

Seeing Pacific people empowered, thriving and flourishing is something he feels strongly about, and the job feels like a perfect fit.

“Workwise plays an important part in the Tupu Aotearoa by helping young people of Pacific descent find meaningful study and employment opportunities,” Damien says.

The ongoing support we provide to the employer and new employee is what sets Workwise apart from other agencies, he adds.

The Tupu Aotearoa programme has a focus on people between the ages of 15 -29 years (in metropolitan areas) and 15-39 for those in regional areas, who are New Zealand residents and are currently not working or studying.

Working together, Workwise and Tupu Aotearoa are creating fresh possibilities and bright futures for people, organisations and communities – something Damien is truly motivated by.
