A local State of Emergency was declared in Auckland on 27 January 2023 and extended to Waikato, Northland and Thames-Coromandel a few days later, following extensive rain in the region, which resulted in devastating flooding and widespread evacuations.

Floodwaters can carry bugs that cause disease from the ground surface, septic tanks, and sewerage systems.
It’s important to make sure your food and water aren’t contaminated and to clean up, drain and dry out the house as quickly as possible.
