This week is Safer Boating Week, and we are reminding our Pacific families and communities about the importance of wearing a lifejacket.

Safer Boating Week is an initiative to raise awareness of boat safety, and water safety.

"A lifejacket helps save lives and we need to emphasise the importance of lifejackets during Safer Boating Week," says Laulu Mac Leauanae, Ministry for Pacific Peoples Chief Executive Officer.

"We have witnessed many tragic incidents involving Pacific people, drowning while swimming or boating, and this week is a reminder to check all safety precautions, including lifejackets."

The Ministry urges everyone to play their part.

Safer Boating Week is an important communication tool for emphasising water safety, and we encourage our people to get into the habit of wearing a lifejacket whenever they are in the water.

Zip up, and clip up before you get on board.
