Special message to fathers
This Sunday 3 September marks the commemoration of Father’s Day in New Zealand.
Father’s Day is a chance for everyone to pay tribute to their dads. For many Pacific families the tradition is church, followed by a special family meal, sometimes presents, and a chance for fathers to put their feet up.
This is the one day of the year for everyone to honour all fathers in New Zealand.
“It’s extremely important to recognise the contribution of fathers and to recognise the unique contribution that they make within families, communities, churches and Aotearoa,” says Ministry for Pacific Peoples Chief Executive Officer Laulu Mac Leauanae.
Mr Leauanae says this is an important weekend for Pacific families and Kiwi families to recognise the contribution of fathers in their lives.
“We celebrate widely the importance of Mother’s Day but let us not ignore the significant support of fathers in our families. They make an enormous contribution and it shouldn’t go unnoticed.”
“We applaud the efforts of all Pacific dads this Sunday and celebrate their special day.”
Father’s Day is a special day to recognise and celebrate the role fathers play and an opportunity to say ‘Thank You’.
The Ministry for Pacific Peoples would like to wish all fathers in New Zealand, the Pacific and around the world a Happy Father’s Day.
