Obituary – Helen Kisona
On behalf of the Ministry for Pacific Peoples Central Regional Manager Maureen Tukaroa-Betham offers this obituary to the late Helen Kisona, of Porirua.
The Ministry for Pacific Peoples would like to extend our condolences to all the kaiga of the late Helen Kisona (pictured).
Helen was a friend of the Ministry and a champion of her Tokelau peoples.
She encouraged Tokelau children, young people, parents-grandparents, families, communities, whenever she could to help them learn tāuivi ki te lelei (pursuit of excellence), tau loa (perseverance), mamalu ma te tāua (dignity and honour) in relation to Gagana ma te aganuku Tokelau (Tokelau language and culture).
A member of the Tokelau Wellington Leadership Group and the Chairperson of the Tokelau Sharks Porirua, Helen strived to inspire her people to take every opportunity available to learn and/or teach gagana Tokelau and nā tū ma nā aga faka-Tokelau (Tokelau customs and way of life).
Helen was a loved wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend.
