Pacific Employment Support Service (PESS)
Helping young Pacific people find employment and complete further training or study.
Funded by the Ministry, we are committed to reducing the number of Pacific young people aged 15-39 who are Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET). It is important that we have the ability to prepare our young people for work, by working with their families and community, and successfully placing them into sustained employment.
Increasing Pacific income and wealth, and building Pacific leadership are priority focus areas for the Ministry.
What is the Ministry doing?
The successful programme from 2010 to 2018 achieved:
- 2246 Pacific young people participate in the programme
- 1072 successfully placed into employment
- 231 have achieved continuous employment over 12 months
- Almost 700 training placements and over 140 people have completed training qualifications
The Ministry will continue to build on this success, and over the next two years the regional programme is expected to place 1000 Pacific NEET peoples into employment and or training.
How does it work?
This programme will help young Pacific people in Auckland, Hamilton, Waikato, Manawatu-Whanganui, Otago, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay and Murihuku/Southland to find sustainable employment, education or training opportunities by working with local providers. These providers will motivate, train and match young people to jobs or education that best fit them. Examples of services they offer include tailoring interventions such as career advice, CV design, coaching or interview skills.
The current providers in the Auckland region are:
